Milk bread recipe

I've been asked for this recipe too ;)
This bread made as a braid is very typical for Easter in Germany, also a braid formed to a circle sprinkled with coarse sugar.

Milk bread:

1 tsp. yeast
1/4-1/2 tsp. salt
80g sugar
1 cup warm milk
mix together, add
100g soft butter
2 eggs
450-500g flour (sometimes I change a part of it to whole wheat)
knead well, cover, let grow for 1- 1 1/2 h
knead again, form 3 long rolls, braid them together, place on sprayed pan
let grow for 45 min. again.
spread with milk/whipping cream right before baking at 180-200°C for appr. 40 min.

take out of the oven, let cool for a few minutes and take a bite :D

Hi Rita- thanks for your sweet comments about my brown paper packages! Where are you from in Germany? My family and my husband's family are from Germany. My dad's family immigrated in the early 1900's to a small "German" town near St. Louis! My parents are going to Germany in about 10 days with friends! Welcome to North America!

This looks exactly like the Challah my mother and I bake every Friday. We braid it just like that! ;) Looks delicious! I just read your profile, Germany? That is very interesting! :)
